KWP WIN U11
NATIONAL FINALS
2022
Kingsway Power U11 were crowned queens of England after defeating Leeds Athletic 11-6 in the final to be the first team to ever win this event. It was a relatively stress free day for the Cheshire based side who only encountered a little pressure when Leeds Athletic started well in the opening half of their game. This win took the clubs tally to five wins within our leagues and national final structures this season.
This competition was designed to get the teams a head start in understanding the level of the competition they will be coming up against in the ENG U12 YNPL 2022/23 season. We had completed four regional heats before this national final and the top fifteen teams from those events were all brought together to see who had what it takes to be No.1.
Group A
This group had a three way battle for the top spot and was highly competitive through-out. Sutton Town took on Starz NC in their opening game and they struggled to find the high level of consistency that got them to this competition and lost 5-4. Wodson Park who had won the Eastern Finals got off to a decent start with a win over MK Netters, but they lost to Old Bridgians in their second game, which showcased how competitive this group was.
As we reached the final games, it was a three way tie for the top spot. Sutton Town managed to shrug off their opening game defeat and record two wins in a row. Starz NC were undefeated and Wodson Park had two wins out of three. Sutton Town produced their best performance of the event with a 6-1 win over Wodson Park to secure top spot and condemn Starz NC to the runners up spot and Wodson Park to third place. MK Netters put up a brave performance against Old Bridgians to try and avoid being knocked out of the competition, but lost 6-5. The result meant Old Bridgians finished 4th in the group.

Group B
On paper a highly competitive group which had prestigious clubs like Eagles NC, Turnford and Leeds Atheltic all battling it out for the right to qualify for the knock-outs. Eagles NC out of all the clubs in this group were the ones who stamped down their authority the quickest and ruthlessly, winning all four games to top the group. The amazing Kingsway Power U10 side once again got the better of Leeds Athletic with a 4-2 win to give themselves a great chance of escaping such a tough group.
Leeds Athletic had a mountain to climb after their opening game defeat and it didn't get better for them after suffering two more defeats, leaving them with a must win game against Herts Hornets. Herts Hornets themselves had started the tournament brilliantly and were pushing for the runners up position but came unstuck against Leeds Athletic who finally found the winning formula to secure their place in the knock-outs. Turnford did well and got two wins on route to qualifying for the knock-outs and Kingsway Power managed to scrape into the knock-outs after that crucial win over Leeds Athletic earlier in the event.

Kingsway Power U11 were the dominant force in this group with a dominant performance to dispatch their rivals and get four wins and a place in the quarter finals. TTNC Apollo followed Kingsway Power's lead with three wins in their first three games but they couldn't match Kingsway Power U11 intensity and had to settle for a runners up spot in the group after they lost 9-2 to them.
Ryland NC looked good and won two games to settle comfortably in third place and Little Sutton managed to take the pressure off themselves early doors, winning against AP Saints in their first game 7-4 to secure a place in the knock-outs. AP Saints NC just couldn't find the form that got them to this event and had to settle for a 14th-15th play-off game against MK Netters.
Quarter Finals Play-Offs
Some hotly contested games in this round to see who would go into the quarter finals. Ryland and Turnford played out an outstanding game which ended in a draw in normal time and was won eventually by one point by Turnford. Wodson Park looked to have the game won against Old Bridgians but didn't count of them being so determined, but they managed to hang on for the win to set up a tie with Eagles NC. Leeds Athletic got revenge after their earlier defeat to Hertford Hornets and secured safe passage into the next round. Lastly, Kingsway Power U10 pulled off an amazing win against TTNC Apollo, winning 8-3.

Quarter Finals
Eagles NC and Kingsway Power U11 started the knock-outs the way they left the group stages with comprehensive wins over Turnford and Wodson Park. Leeds Athletic continued to grow into the event and showed great character to overcome Sutton Town when drawing at half time. Staz NC looked to have the game won against Kingsway Power U10 when they went into a 4-1 lead. A late goal before half time changed the mood of this extremely talented U10 side and they come out in the second half full of confidence. The second half saw Starz struggle to get the ball down court and this allowed Kingsway Power to draw level with minutes to go. With both sides now playing do or die netball, the pressure was now on the shooters to see who would half their nerve in the final minutes. With shots missed from both sides it looked like it would go to overtime, but Kingsway Power U10 showed the most concentration in the face of pressure and they won the game by one point.

Semi Final/Final
The biggest shock of the day materialized in the semi final game between Leeds Athletic and Eagles NC. Up until this point Eagles were flying high and it looked likely they would secure the place in the final based on their form coming into this game. Leeds though had grew in confidence since their first meeting in the groups and matched them goal for goal through-out the game forcing the tie to an overtime scenario. It was tense stuff and it was Leeds who got the first goal of overtime which put Eagles under huge pressure. The seconds ticked by and Eagles NC had no joy breaking down a very strong Leeds Athletic defense. Great scenes followed when the final whistle blew and Leeds were in the final.
The final was between two northern based sides, Kingsway Power and Leeds Athletic. The game started competitively and Leeds went one goal ahead and instantly Kingsway Power responded with a goal of their own. Leeds again scored, but this time forced an error from Kingsway Power and this was an incredible opportunity to get an early lead. With the potential scenario of Leeds going two or three points ahead the Kingsway Power wall got constructed and they defensively shut down the Leeds attack and managed to then dominate proceedings, going in at half time 5-2 ahead. Leeds were still in the tie, but needed to be faultless in the second half to put Kingsway under pressure. Unfortunately for Leeds, Kingsway Power stuck to task and did not put a foot wrong on the way to becoming the ENG U11 Netball Cup National Champions, winning 11-6.
